We plan to offer our 5 day camp this year and are researching available venues within San Diego County. If you know of any spaces that fit the descriptions below, please contact Jennifer Andrews at jenn@crimsoncenter.com or call 858 695 9415.
Ideal site would include:
• Size requirement of indoor facility: 13,600 square feet
• Access to unload and load equipment
• Space to park trailer for the week
• Secured overnight storage of equipment (approx. 200 square feet)
• Sole use of the facility is preferred during the hours of the camp (M-F from 8-4:30)

Can Bike Riding Become a Family Activity?

“Lose the Training Wheels” Bike Camp & Study
Did the cover story of this month’s issue of San Diego Family Magazine featuring the best family-friendly bike paths in San Diego make you wish you could ride bikes as a family? One of the many challenges facing families affected by autism is finding recreational activities that everyone can participate in and enjoy. Bike riding, in particular, is often difficult for many children with autism to master.
Crimson Treatment & Research Center was recently awarded a NFAR Project Grant that will underwrite scholarships for 20 children with autism to attend their “Lose the Training Wheels” 5-day bike camp. The grant will help provide direct camp instruction for riders and a study that examines the long-term affects of a self-sustaining leisure activity on the family dynamic and the quality of interaction and socialization.
Last year, Crimson hosted the camp for 40 children with developmental disabilities in San Diego County, providing scholarships to those in need. Check out the video of the 2011 event.
